Tea&Jazz

My boy and I had this very-crazy-busy-days lately, so yesterday we went to my favourite café, Café Gregorio. A tiny place with no more than 10 marble tables, bright but not too sunny, it lacks the trendy quality of "young people cafés" and the tatty quality of "normal cafés". I love the decoration.

Mi chico yo hemos tenido una semana de locos, asi que ayer fuimos a mi café favorito, el Café Gregorio. Un sitio pequeño con no más de 10 mesas de mármol, luminoso pero no excesivamente soleado. Me gusta porque no es trendy como la mayoría de los cafés para gente joven, ni cutre como muchos cafés "normales". Me encanta la decoración.

I wore my brand new old pocket watch that my parents got me at Portobello, and bought pretty a pencil case as a little encouragement for my library afternoons. I had a red tea.

Me puse mi nuevo reloj viejo de bolsillo, que mis padres me compraron en Portobello, y compré un plumier para animarme en mis tardes de biblioteca. Tomé un té rojo.

Later on we went to a free jazz concert downtown, my very first jazz quartet concert. The band was New York Standards Quartet with Tim Armacost, David Berkman, Yosuke Inoue and Gene Jackson. We had a terrific time, they were amazing (I specially enjoyed the double bassist performance)

Después fuimos a un concierto de jazz gratis en el centro, mi primer concierto de un cuarteto de jazz. La banda era el New York Standards Quartet con Tim Armacost, David Berkman, Yosuke Inoue and Gene Jackson. Nos lo pasamos muy bien, eran increíbles. (Me gustó especialmente la actuación del bajista)

And now for something completely different: I'm thinking of buying this cute brown headphones.

Learning Crochet - Aprendiendo Ganchillo

Hace un par de semanas llegó mi pedido de Amazon UK: Stitch'n'bitch Crochet y Knitting without tears, de Elizabeth Zimmerman. Compré unos cuantos ganchos y me puse manos a la obra. Tejí la típica flor facilita y le añadí una cadeneta larga para usarla de diadema en mi disfraz de carnaval (del que no tengo fotos porque la noche fue un total desastre)

Two weeks ago I recieved my Amazon UK order: Stitch'n'Bitch Crochet & Knitting without tears. I bought a few hooks and crocheted my first (simple) flower. I made it a headband and used it with my Carnival costume (I took no photos of the costume because the night was a total disaster)

Ahora intento desentrañar los patrones japoneses de amigurumis que he encontrado por la red, y, sobre todo, los de las revistas Zakka Marché. Algunos son demasiado "tapetes de abuelita", pero la mayoría son muy bonitos y femeninos (¡llevados con moderación, eso sí!)

Now I'm trying to translate japanese amigurimi patterns that I found online, and two Zakka Marché mags. Some of the patterns are too much "grandma doily" for my taste, but most of them are pretty and feminine

Ayer fui a dar un paseo en bici con mi chico para quemar las calorías de los frixuelos (frisuelos, fayuelos) que hice por Carnaval.

Últimamente hemos visto "Che, el Argentino", "Brokeback Mountain" y "Despertares", todas me han gustado, pero encontré Despertares algo floja con respecto al libro (algo que siempre pasa en las adaptaciones, no fue una sorpresa).De Niro maravilloso, como (casi) siempre.

Yesterday I went ciclying with my boyfriend to burn up the calories of the frixuelos that I made for Carnival. Frixuelos are a typical Asturian dessert, basically crêpes sprinkled with sugar and then covered until cool to soak them in kind of a "sugar syrup". Lately we've wachted "Che, el Argentino", "Brokeback Mountain" and "Awakenings", and enjoyed them very much, although I found Awakenings a bit weak compared to book (but that always happens with adaptations, right?). De Niro was amazing, as he always is.

What's on my needles

Después de muchas muestras tejidas y de pelearme con el gauge de marras (desesperación) decidí que la lana comprada en Liberty's (Rowan Scottish Tweed Aran) sería para este cardigan de Norah Gaughan. Tiene un estilo masculino muy adecuado para combinar con vestidos (que es casi lo único que llevo, solo poseo dos pantalones) y es interesante de tejer.

After lots of swatches and fighting with gauge (despair!) with the yarn I got at Liberty's (Rowan Scottish Tweed Aran) I decided to knit Norah Gaughan's Tweedy Aran Cardigan. I love the masculine style, I'll combine it with girly dresses (wich are practically the only thing I wear, I only own two pairs of trousers)

Para la otra lana venida de Albión, Cherry Tree Hill Suri Lace Alpaca, escogí Ishbel, de Ysolda. No estoy acostumbrada a tejer con algo tan fino y ligero pero me encanta lo suave que es y lo liviana que queda tejida.

I picked Ysolda's pattern Ishbel for the other yarn I got in Albion, Cherry Tree Hill Suri Lace Alpaca. I'm not used to knit with something so fine and light, but I love its softness and the airy fabric it creates
